Client:        St. Croix Action for Heritage and Economic Development   (SUCCEED/SEA)  2012                                               

What:         Public consultation/Community Brain Trust to address opportunities for economic development in areas  
                    of culture, heritage, the natural and built environment. 

Outcome:  "Preserve, Promote, and Prosper" - 2013 publication of detailed assesment and recommendations for            
                    Public Policy, Technical and Financial assistance needed to support growth of businesses in: Culture and                       Agriculture;  Education; Environment (built and natural); Hospitality (Bed &Breakfast, Personal Services  
                    Arts (Literary, Performance, Culinary, Design). "E" and hard copy distribution - often cited by groups.         

 

Client:        UVI and USVI Department of Planning and Natural Resources 2003

What:         Remediation of documents for 3 Areas of Particular Concern.DPNR constraints (short  time & money) and
                    directive to integrate sub-par drafts into format and content compliant with OCZM/NOAA federal grant. 

Outcome:  OCZM/NOAA accepts 3 plans 1) with General and APC site-specific strategies; 2) in formats supporting the                      development of  a) staff workplans, b) public education booklets, c) policy, guidelines and fact sheets,                             d)framework for DPNR's development of comprehensive management plans; 3)Federal funding aources                         named for 70-80% of all objectives.  Public presentations in both Districts were well received ; Elements                           of Coral Bay Plan are reflected in the accomplishments of Coral bay Community Council. 2005-present)

 

Client:        Caribbean Exploratory Research Center - UVI   2010

What:         Assessment of Virgin Islanders' Attiutudes Towards Health: 6 Focus Groups (Men's/Women's)2 per Island 

Outcome:  "What Have You done for YOU Lately...Watah Boilin fa  Fish..Fish ehn't know."  Men's health brochure

Client:        Caribbean Business and Tourism, Inc.  1995  and 1996                                                                                                  

What:         Women's Business Conference and Trade Exposition for existing and aspiring entrepreneurs from 12          
                    Caribbean Islands, Guyana, Surinam and 4 US States

Outcome:   215 Women, 9Vendor/Exhibitors(Yr 1): 265 Women, 27 V/EX register (Yr2) Storm reduced attendance 50%                        Women 1) received exposure to/hands on training in use of computers, internet, and e-commerce 2)were    
                    mentored by successful businesswomen, business counselors, and bankers, c) formed Delegation to Bejing                     Bejing Conference, d) Media reports on Basketmaking/teaching, Wearable Art, and Bush Tea businesses
                    started/bolstered by CBT events.  VI Bush Tea hosted at the White House, post- Bejing .

 

Client:        St. Croix Anti-Litter and Beautification Commission  1998                                                                                          

What:         Recycling Economic Development Advocacy Project (REDA) 

Outcome:  1)"Trash to the Treasury" 2 Day Conference showcased local/feasible rcycling/remanufacturing businesses                     followed  up TA day - Prospective or existing businesses met with Bankers and business counselors:   Two
                    women partnered to replicate 
Harmony Resort (St. John) glass remanufacturing ; Man pursued glassphalt
                    business; Rebates for residential/commercial scale compost bins and wood chippers
as  considered prior   
                    to ALBCX dissolution.
                                                                           
                    2) Rapid Waste Sort informs matrix of feasible businesses, skills needed, costs, product markets, etc.                               3) Student andTeacher projects developed under REDA showcased and received awards at Conference.                           4) 20 REDA READS researched/printed at public kiosks to give VI-specific Reduce Re-Use,Recycle options.               note:   REDA outcomes informed HU's subsequent engagement formation of VIWMA Citizen Advisory Group.                                                                                                              

                                                                      EXIGENCY  ASSISTANCE 

 

Client:       Our Town Frederiksted and UVI Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning 2003.

What:        Technical assistance and support  3 week "window" to develop/submit $600k grant application for skills
                   Training Center at UVI  St.Thomas campus and in Frederiksted.

Outcome:  Provided strategy including do-it-yourself checklist in preparation for a 1 day work session led by HU.       
                   Project received full funding and Training 
Centers opened  2004 .                                                                                                                                                          

Client:       Per Ankh Institute, Inc. 2009

What:         Response to federal office of Women'sHealth solicitation for community-based, outreach and culturally                         competent education and taining on issues related to HIV/AIDS. 4 week window - 6 figure 3 year grant.

Outcome:  PAI received 3 year funding to implement "NuWoman Rising"  and LIVE Up comprehensive training and                         leadership development on HIV/AIDS for women and girls , respectively. Following the introduction to                           High School girls, boys requested/received similar program.  PAI developed and received continuation                           grant funding without further HU assistance.

 

Client:       UVI - Research and Public Service 

What:        Two (2) engagements to assess sustainability of Conservation Data Center and Eastern Caribbean Center                        respecively. HU conducted stakeholder and institutional analyses, projected opportunities for revenue                            generation, and expansion of their respective "sphere of influence", including recommendations on site
                   location and image enhancement.

Outcome:  CDC and ECC incorporated recommendations and completed major transformations, expanded sphere of
                    influence, addressed organization culture and
 infrsastructure, and are vibrant centers at UVI.
